Service Description
Can you imagine living in a world without light? This is actually how most animals in the ocean live! Sunlight can only go down about 650 feet, which leaves a lot of the ocean in the dark. In this course, we will discover the amazing adaptations that ocean animals have in order to live in (sometimes) extreme conditions! We will explore animals that live in each of the ocean zones: the sunlit zone, the twilight zone, the midnight zone, the abyssal zone, and the hadal zone. If you’re more of a beach person, not to fear! We will also talk about the animals that live in the intertidal zone (AKA, tide pools and on the beach). Students will create a field guide of animals that live in each of the ocean zones, and this course will also feature an optional meet-up event at the Austin aquarium. Are you ready to dive in?
